Our History

The Downtown Neighborhood association began as a way for the businesses, non-profits, and residents of the Richmond Arts District to come together and advocate for the region. In planning the monthly Richmond First Fridays Art Walk, Broad Appetit Food festival, and community enhancement projects, the Downtown Neighborhood Association continues to help lift the community we all call home.

We are proud of:

  • First Fridays Art Walk

  • Richmond’s Largest Food Festival

  • Some of Richmond’s Greatest Businesses

  • Many Non-Profits Doing Wonderful Work in the Community

Whether you are living, visiting, or learning the area, The Downtown Neighborhood Association and Richmond Arts District has something to add to every walk of life.

The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake.

ARTS & Culture

Home to many of Richmond’s art galleries and institutions. The Arts District has plenty of culture for all!

The Downtown Neighborhood Association is home to the First Friday arts walk, as well as the city’s largest food festival.

First Fridays Art Walk

The First Fridays art walk is hosted on (you guessed it) the First Friday of every month. Starting at Belvidere and Broad Street. Walk East along Broad Street and the surrounding area to experience the most the Richmond Arts District has to offer. Many of the local businesses are members of the Downtown Neighborhood association, so stop in and say hello when you are here!

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”
